1961 Rickenbacker 345 Capri Fireglo

1961 Rickenbacker 345 Capri Fireglo

VINTAGE VERIFIED BY ISH GUITARS

Tech Notes: This guitar plays really well with 9-42 D’Addario XL strings, with medium/low action and minimal relief.  A very slight amount of open string rattle if you pluck hard on the low strings due to the nut being slightly low, this may be resolved with a slightly higher setup or thicker strings. Everything appears to be perfectly original, not a screw out of place.  The wiring appears to be all original with no replacement parts.  We were only able to read the potentiometer code fully on one pot, but the others look identical in every way. The pot code reads the 3rd week of 1961.  The plate on the jack holds the serial number, and it reads June of 1961. The controls function with 2 volumes, 2 tones, and one 3 way switch.  The neck and middle pickup work together in tandem, so when the switch is up the neck and middle are working together (the upper two pots control volume and tone of both). In the middle position all 3 pickups are on, and when the switch is down it is bridge only (separate volume and tone for bridge). The frets and board certainly show some wear, but overall excellent condition for the year. The frets are low, but this is pretty typical of a Rickenbacker, and it plays very cleanly up and down the board.  The fretboard radius could not be measured, but it is very curved, and I don’t have a tool that can read the radius lower and 7.25”.  Regardless, it is very comfortable to play! Blacklighting proved clean with no signs of touchup work, repairs or refinishes.

Cosmetic Condition: Overall very good condition. Many small dings present all over the body, headstock and back of the neck.  Various points of wear around the body near the binding.  Still in incredible shape for a guitar of this age.
